Collaborative Book Development
Our partnership with communities, health and development workers and medical professionals is what allows Hesperian to present complete and accurate medical information in a way that is realistic and locally applicable in the communities where the books will be used most.
Hesperian's global network includes hundreds of lay health workers, trainers, health educators and others who participate in reviewing, writing, illustrating, translating and distributing our books. Their participation helps to ensure the information is practical, culturally appropriate and will effectively enable lay health workers to recognize, treat and prevent most common health problems.
Our network also includes doctors, nurses, midwives, physical therapists, pharmacists and other professionally trained health care providers. These partners, all of whom have specific areas of expertise and experience in poor communities with few resources, help ensure Hesperian books reflect the latest and most appropriate information, medicines and techniques.
Another vital part of our network includes community leaders and organizers. By using draft materials in trainings, community campaigns and to deliver needed services, these partners give us feedback on book content, accessibility and relevance, as well as sharing information about health problems in their communities and providing details about the conditions of their work.
