Hesperian in the News

Hesperian partner ACOTCHI featured in Guatemalan newspaper Nuestro Diario.

Health for All Women

July 31, 2009

NuestroDiario Since 2000, the Civil Association of Traditional Midwives of Chimaltenango (ACOTCHI in Spanish) in Guatemala has trained more than 100 midwives who work in rural areas. Beside training midwives, ACOTCHI also has a clinic where they offer free and low-cost medical help, making their services accessible to the majority of women in the region.

The central text ACOTCHI trainers use in their workshops is Hesperian’s Spanish title, Un libro para parteras (A Book for Midwives). The midwives also collaborated in the development and field testing of Un libro para parteras, and during that testing process they helped save many women and newborns in the region.
